Steam Train Photography Outing!
Ah, the romance of steam! The fresh bite of early morning air, the tang of coal smoke, wisps of steam curling around polished brass, the massive bulk of a locomotive emerging from the dark. Is it no wonder that steam trains remain a favourite subject for writers and photographers alike? Think of movies like Murder on the Orient Express or Dr Zhivago or, if you old enough, trips through the veldt with, gazing out the window trying to keep the grit and smoke out of your eyes, sleeping in a swaying bunk and waking to look dreamily out the carriage window at some tiny station.
To capture some of this magic we have arranged an early morning outing to visit the Reefsteamers Locomotive Depot in Germiston. Here we will be able to photograph their collection of locomotives and rolling stock both in the open and in their sheds. Great for Steam enthusiasts and macro photographers alike. The visit is on a morning where they will be “warming up” a loco for an outing so we will have some dramatic photo opportunities with the steam jetting out into the cold early morning air.
When: Saturday 2nd October 2010 from 6am until mid-morning.
Where: Reefsteamers Locomotive Depot in Germiston
Price: R500.00 per person to be paid in advance in order to secure booking. Numbers are limited so don’t delay!
Equipment required: Digital SLR, Tripod, Grey card, warm clothes, and a flash if you have one.
